Editora da Universidade de São Paulo

Edusp – Editora da Universidade de São Paulo – is the biggest Brazilian university press. During its existence, Edusp published about three thousand titles and now there are more than seven hundred titles in our catalogue.
Since its foundation in 1963, Edusp has always been concerned about publishing works of recognized experts of each knowledge area. Although Edusp gives special attention to the results of the intellectual work of the university, taken as reference in the whole country, it doesn’t forget the great works, classical or contemporary, of universal culture, which are published in excellent translations and in critical editions. In the catalogue of Edusp, you will find works of the most important philosophers and also the most recent scientific theories; besides, there are works by and about some of the most relevant Brazilian artists: writers, painters, engravers, composers, architects.
In the past decade Edusp has also developed an outstanding graphic design for its books, establishing a new standard that motivated a revolution in the Brazilian academic publishing market.
A big part of the titles published by Edusp are distributed among the series and collections that have been created in its recent history, which were conceived and are always being improved to better serve the academic public – students, professors, researchers –, even though a lot of books can also reach a wider number of readers outside of the university.
For instance, Didática [Didactic Collection] is composed of titles written by university professors and is used as textbooks of biology, geography, literature and history in several Brazilian high schools. History of Brazil, by Boris Fausto, the most successful of these books, is in its twelfth edition and is being translated to Italian and Japanese.
Another series, Acadêmica [Academic Series] began in 1994 with an open contest to motivate new authors: all the teachers of the university had the chance to present projects in their respective areas. The chosen works were published and are now reference at different courses in a lot of Brazilian universities. After the initial contest many other titles were selected and the series has now about sixty titles.
These are only some examples: in this website it’s possible to know all the books published by Edusp still in print. For details about these titles and further information please contact assessoria.edusp@edu.usp.br.
